Woven entirely by hand on traditional backstrap looms by the ancient Kanekes weavers in the forested hills of West Java, each textile piece supports cultural continuity and provides a vital source of livelihood for the community. Crafted using slow, ethical production methods, no two pieces are ever exactly the same, even within the same textile run.

Natural dyes drawn from local plants create soft, grounded tones that echo the surrounding landscape. Subtle variations in texture, colour, and pattern are an inherent part of the handcrafted process, honouring the authenticity of the craft, while overall quality, strength, and durability remain consistent.

This piece is naturally dyed using organic materials derived from plants and handcrafted from 100% pure, unbleached cotton grown locally in Indonesia.

Each Kanekes piece is cut from a single 3-metre panel of handwoven cotton, so soft shifts in texture and colour are part of its natural character. Even within the same weaving run, no two pieces will ever be identical — a reflection of the backstrap loom’s rhythm and the hands that guide every row. These variations aren’t flaws; they’re the quiet marks of true craftsmanship.

• Do not rub or wring. Air dry flat or hang in shade
• Warm iron if desired
• No dry cleaning is neccesary – harsh chemicals may damage natural fibers, dyes, and the environment

Our plant-based natural dyes are colorfast. However, no dyeing chemicals means small color runs / slight fading may appear where the natural mordant has not taken to the fabric. Refer to our care for more info.
