We take care to describe each piece as accurately and thoughtfully as possible. Our product descriptions are written to reflect the materials, construction, and details of each item at the time of publishing.

That said, small variations or updates may occur, and we can’t guarantee that every description or piece of information is entirely complete or error-free. We reserve the right to make changes or updates to product information without prior notice.

As reliable as handmade allows, which is to say: close, with small, honest variation.

We size by body measurement: bust, waist, hips, in centimetres, rather than by label size alone, because that gives a truer fit than a size tag can.

Garment measurements can vary by one to two centimetres piece to piece, for the same reason no two batik pieces match exactly.

We do our best to represent the colours of our products as accurately as possible through photography and descriptions. However, colours can appear differently depending on screen settings, device calibrations, and lighting conditions.

As a result, we can't guarantee that the colour you see on your screen will exactly match the garment in person.

The same is true of pattern: the crackle line in batik and the stripe positioning in our woven pieces are set by hand and by the loom, so placement in person will also vary from what's shown in the photo.

All SALE items cannot be returned or exchanged at any point.

RŪPA gift vouchers & credit notes are only for digital use on www.rupahaus.com. Gift vouchers are valid for 3 years, and Credit Notes are redeemable within 6 months from date of issue.

Gift Vouchers & Credit Notes should be treated like cash and will not be replaced if lost or stolen. Once expired, any unused portion of the voucher/note itself cannot be redeemed for cash.

Once the pre-order request is submitted, a full payment is required to finalise your order. at RŪPAHAUS, we value your commitment and we reserve the rights to deny pre-order cancellation or refunds prior to shipping. The same Return and Exchange policies to normal purchases apply.

Three different processes, and each shows up differently in the finished cloth.

Batik is hand-painted before the cloth is cut. Wax is drawn along the pattern lines, the cloth is dyed, then the wax is removed — and the process repeats for each colour in the design. Because the wax line is drawn by hand, no two batik pieces are quite the same.

Lurik and Kanekes are woven, not painted. Lurik cloth comes off the loom in rolls of a maximum 200 metres — once a roll is finished, that particular run is finished. Kanekes fabric is woven in individual three-metre panels, each one made separately.

Plain woven cotton is the base cloth without either process — no resist-dyed pattern, no panel-by-panel weave — used where a piece calls for a simpler, more even finish.

Two separate things.

On top of the fair rate we already pay each artisan, 5% of revenue goes into an individual rainy-day savings account — one per artisan, not pooled. Insurance isn't something that's standard or affordable for most people in Indonesia, so this account covers what insurance would elsewhere: health costs, and support for their family or their weaving collective when it's needed.

Separately, each Christmas we make a donation outside the collectives we work with directly. For the past two years, that's gone to Baptist World Aid, toward poverty relief in rural Indonesia.

We are always looking for the most innovative way to close the circular design loop and keep RŪPAHAUS pieces out of landfill. 

So when you think your RŪPAHAUS piece has reached the end of its useable life, either:

• email us to discuss ways you can recycle them yourself or,
• you are welcome to return it to us. We'll then assess it for either repair, repurposing, or responsible fibre recycling. In exchange for the return, we'll send you a $10 thank you voucher to use towards your next purchase.

As part of our circular design process, we run an in house up-cycling initiative – re:RŪPA, where we purposefully re-integrate fabric offcuts to minimise production waste back into the brand; and ultimately giving these beautiful fabrics at least a second chance of life.

Natural dyes age gently over time, much like natural fibres. With simple care — cold washing, mild detergents, and shade drying — your RŪPAHAUS pieces will retain their depth and character for many years. Any subtle changes in colour are part of the material’s natural life, not a fault.

We recommend cold hand-washing to preserve the structure and colour of handwoven fabrics. If needed, a gentle machine cycle on low heat can be used at your discretion. Avoid tumble drying, as heat can affect the weave and fit.

Each RŪPAHAUS piece is dyed using plant-based processes and woven by hand.

Variations in colour and texture are a natural result of this process and reflect the individuality of each garment. These variations are part of the design, not imperfections.

The same is true of pattern: batik's crackle line is drawn by hand, so no two pieces carry the same line, and panel width shifts with the weave, each Kanekes panel is woven separately in three-metre lengths, while lurik comes off the loom in rolls up to two hundred metres.

Our garments are designed for everyday wear. While they benefit from thoughtful care, they are made to be worn often, lived in, and enjoyed — not stored away.

Washing less often helps extend the life of natural fibres and dyes. We recommend airing your garments between wears and washing only when needed, using cold water and gentle detergents.
