They're handrolled from 100% raw Western Australian beeswax in a Perth home studio, one at a time, which is part of why the burn (and the scent) can vary slightly from candle to candle.

How Long Each Candle Burns

All four are handrolled from the same raw beeswax, sourced from small independent beekeepers across the Wheatbelt down through Pemberton and Manjimup in WA's South West.

Why Beeswax Burns Differently to Soy or Paraffin

Soy and paraffin candles are everywhere for a reason — the wax is cheaper and faster to produce, so the candles burn faster and cooler as a trade-off. Beeswax has a higher melting point and a denser structure, which is generally understood to be why it burns slower and cleaner — without the black soot ring that creeps up the inside of a soy or paraffin glass over time. Ours is unrefined and additive-free, so what you're smelling when it's lit is the natural honey-and-nectar scent of the wax itself, not a fragrance oil — and that scent shifts slightly depending on what the bees were foraging that season.

It's also why a beeswax candle costs more than a soy one at the same size. There's no getting around the real material or the time it takes to hand-roll each candle individually — this isn't poured into a mould, it's rolled by hand, one at a time, in our Perth home studio.

How to Get the Full Burn Time from Yours

Trim the wick to about 5mm before every single light — it's the step that gets skipped, and it's the reason a candle's actual burn time can fall short of its potential. Skip the trim and the flame runs higher than it should, the wax pools unevenly instead of melting flat across the surface, and the burn time drops — not because the candle is faulty, but because of basic physics nobody mentions on the label.

Let the wax melt evenly across the top on the first burn so it doesn't tunnel down the middle on later burns. Extinguish by snuffing rather than blowing it out, let the wax cool before you move it, and store the candle out of direct sunlight. The habit matters more with raw beeswax than with a cheaper blended wax, since beeswax is already the slower-burning material of the two — an untrimmed wick works against that advantage rather than with it.
